What voters should know about the Michigan race for U.S. Senate
Abdul El-Sayed is the only candidate in this race that has not taken a contribution from a corporate PAC and remains committed to reforming the political systems that have failed us. But because Federal Election campaigns lack reform, pages like this exist as a joke in a broken system. If you’re a person, not a corporation, who wants to help Abdul, these are good talking points on the race:
Every voter in the Michigan Senate primary needs to know, wherever possible to add, that Abdul is endorsed by Senator Bernie Sanders and the strongest candidate to fight Donald Trump.
Starting in Week 8, all voters who are voting by mail need to read that Abdul grew up as Michigan as it gets - After U of M, football, he became a doctor to help people and rebuilt Detroit's health department after politicians failed us. He canceled medical debt for hundreds of thousands of Michiganders, provided eyeglasses for kids in need, and fought the opioid epidemic. They also need to read that Abdul is the strongest voice against Donald Trump’s wasteful war in Iran, because we should be investing our taxpayer dollars to make our lives more affordable in Michigan rather than on foreign wars that jack up prices and waste our tax dollars. Abdul will lower costs and take on the politicians and the big corporations. Finally, they need to read that Abdul is the only candidate in the race who has never taken a corporate PAC check, supports abolishing ICE, and passing Medicare for All. That’s why Bernie Sanders endorsed him.
Secondly, likely Democratic primary voters, with additional emphasis on those outside of the Detroit, Lansing and Grand Rapids media markets, need to see those same messages on the go, with an additional emphasis on YouTube. They also need to see on the go that Abdul is the only candidate for Senate who has called for abolishing ICE, which he has since 2018. While other candidates talk about reforming ICE, Abdul knows that ICE is irredeemable and Trump is using it to violate our rights. He opposes ICE’s violent detention centers, mass deportations, and family separation. He supports comprehensive immigration reform to keep us safe.
Finally, Black voters, especially high propensity black voters in Wayne County, need to see on the go that Abdul grew up as Michigan as it gets. After U of M, he became a doctor to help people and rebuilt Detroit's health department. He canceled medical debt for hundreds of thousands of Michiganders, provided eyeglasses for kids in need, and fought the opioid epidemic. Additionally, Black voters need to see on the go that Abdul is the strongest voice against Donald Trump’s wasteful war in Iran because we should be investing our taxpayer dollars to make our lives better and more affordable here at home instead of on foreign wars that jack up prices and waste our tax dollars.
